Tips for writing your research paper

Whether in high school or college every one of us has had to conduct a research paper at least once.  If you are unfamiliar with what a research paper is, it is a collecting of evidence you have found on a particular topic.  You then create your paper based upon your findings. The following are tips for putting your research paper together.

To first start out, you want to use standard white paper.  Never use the back.  If you run out of space on the first page, use a second page.

Always use margins when typing your research paper.

Sometimes a title page might be necessary.  That is strictly up to your teacher.  If a title page is needed always put it on one page.  If a title page is not needed then on the first page include your name, your teachers name, your class name, and the date.

Make sure to number your pages throughout your paper.  It is suggested that you number your pages in the upper right hand corner of every page.

Another thing to keep in mind is to remember to indent your paragraph as well as use double spacing.

Do not use capitalization throughout your paper.  Capitalize only proper things such as the names of people a place, ect.

It is suggested that if your research paper is lengthy to include a table of contents.  This is helpful for the readers when reading your paper to identify when new topics begin.

Last but not least to keep your papers all together staple them together.

Many times the most dreaded thing that people will face is writing a research paper. In many cases it is because they are afraid of all of the work that they will have to do as well as the amount of time that will need to be invested into the project in order to accomplish the task at hand.

Simply having an idea and a belief is one thing, with the research paper you are writing you will need to be able to support and back up the idea you have.

In order to find information to support your topic you will need to look at a number of different sources. It can be web based sources, videos, periodicals or even traditional books. No matter what you use, the information that you present needs to be facts and needs to support your thesis. If this is not what occurs, then you will have a hard time being able to write your paper and being able to present your points in as far as what it is you are expecting to accomplish.

You also need to make sure to be aware of all of the guidelines and rules that your instructor provides. You need to make sure to stay within the framework of the expectations to achieve success.

Researching 20 years ago meant going to the library and gathering information from the vast number of books to create a piece of research information. This is no longer something people do as much, mainly because by the time something is written down in a book and published, something more current is in the works. With the Internet, everything is up to date right away. There is no lag time and there are many opportunities to find the most up to date information available.

As a researcher, though, the goal is to provide accurate information above all else. This can be a challenge when you consider the vast amount of people who are publishing information on the web. How do you know that the website or the resources you are using are backed up and authentic? You need to know that the information on the website is actually going to be accurate and that is rarely an easy thing to do.

One of the first things to do when you are using the Internet for research is to know what type of website you are using. Websites in the United States ending in .gov, for example, are government websites. The information on these sites is more accurate than others. You may also want to look at the information regarding the website’s resources. If the website a school such as a college or university or a medical organization that can be verified? this can help to improve your chances of getting accurate information

In addition to this, it is also a good idea to learn as much as you can about the information itself. Instead of trusting just one source, find the information on another website as well. That way, you can verify that it is accurate and you can count on the information being more valuable.

The more you know about the website you are getting information from, and who is writing the information on that website, the better off you will be. Take the time to verify information found on the web to ensure that your research is accurate.

How to Pick a Research Paper Topic

Writing an online research paper can not only be easy, but can also be a whole lot of fun!  Why not try it out using many of the tools available to you on the world wide web?

First, you must pick a topic for your research paper.  This can be as easy as going to an online search engine, such as www.google.com, and typing in a broad topic of your choice.  After you do that, you can narrow down your topic to something specific.  For example, if I typed in “animals,” I would get to choose from a wide range of specific animals to choose from, and perhaps I would pick the kangaroo as my research paper topic.  Remember, the more specific, the better.

There are many topics that you should not pick, especially because of how broad they can be, and it is not in your best interest to pick one of these.  For instance, if I decided to do a research paper on “psychology,” I would be writing an entire encyclopedia before I finished!  Instead, I could pick a notable figure in psychology, such as Sigmund Freud, and write on that.  Also — pick something that interests you, not a topic that is boring and you don’t want to write about.

Lastly, set your goals and keep them in mind during the topic picking process.  What do you want to gain from writing about this specific topic?  When you search for it using a search engine, do you find a lot of scholarly resources that interest you?  Will writing about this topic further your education?  Then, think about logistics — how many pages do you wish to write and how many references do you want to have?  If all of these goals are reachable, you have found a proper topic in which to write and you are ready to go!

Spiders That You Can Like

Numerous internet users visit search engine sites like Google everyday. Most of these users probably don’t even know how they work. Ironically enough, some of the most popular search engines use something less than popular to get results: Spiders. Of course, these spiders might be a little less upsetting to users once they realize that they are simply a program.
Spiders, aka crawlers, are the programs that run through the web searching web pages and analyzing the information those pages contain. After a crawler searches said web pages, it then relays the information in a categorized fashion to the home search page it belongs to, like Google.

Spiders will view a page’s content, follow links on each page, and analyze the content in order of relevance. Spiders get their name from the design of catching information much similar to how real spiders catch their pray in a web. After one of these programs visits your site, your content is downloaded to a server and organized and then cataloged. Once all of that has been done, the website is put into a giant search-able index.

The program will start off by searching a text document, called robots.txt, in the main directory. That file acts as an instruction manual for the program, giving the spider directions on what content should be indexed. When there is no content, the program will not index the page. Without that file there is no way for the program to view the content. However, spiders can find pages through links or other pages.

Some search sites will have a manual indexing form that you can submit to them in order to have your site indexed properly. Once you are properly indexed ,you will be naturally ranked and placed among other ranked pages in order of relevance. At that point, other users will be able to view you in their searches.

Google Searching to Change the Web

Google has become a fundamental piece of internet browsing. Even those who rarely use the internet are familiar with the name “Google.”  Thus, it can’t be too surprising to find out that Google is now literally setting the bar for search results. How can one company play such a major role in how the internet works? The answer is based on an algorithm that runs GoogleBot.

GoogleBot is a program that searches pages and inspects them in order to rank the content with the specifications that Google has established. However, in the beginning stages of Google the program was not able to do as much as it does now. Originally it was only able to see web addresses and analyze code. Today, Google has proven to be a company worth paying attention to, including future plans to run programs that can even work with Java. If that pans out the way Google predicts, it would mean indexing content would be much simpler.

Because Java is so complicated it is reasonable for people to be more than a little surprised by this. It is more than slightly complicated to run a program using the types of equations used in Java, and realistically expect it to last for any extended period of time. This is a problem that GoogleBot might be able to overcome.

Some people are giving dues to Caffeine, which is the most recent search index. Because of Caffeine, running any kind of search is now quicker, easier, and more inclusive. These capabilities definitely come with an updated web searching software for GoogleBot. People are now experiencing the better quality of the improvements Google has made. All anyone can do now is watch and wait for whatever Google has in store for the web, as whatever it could be will certainly impact the way people look at the web.
